Thank you你

定義: 完全是香港人的特色,明明已經Thank you咗,又要加個你字在後面,表明我正在說廣東話的立場。大家在想,若然是心照不宣,對中國人來說,要說出來的多謝或是唔該是有多麽的尷尬,所以用外語來戥戥腳。「Thank you你」(讀Thank橋你), 通常是 回應人 唔該你的意思。(This is completely characteristic of Hong Kong people. Though we have said 'thank you', we add the word "你" to indicate we are speaking in Cantonese. We just think if it is already understood, how awkward would it be for a Chinese person to say thank you, so we use a foreign language to help us.)

用法: 老陳幫老二替更,老二向老陳說「Thank you你 」(Old Chen helped Old Two take over the shift, and Old Two said "Thank you you" to Old Chen.)

同義詞: 唔該你

用法: E.g. You two beat six should not be part of our group!

unfair advantage

定義: A code-mixing phrase used by overseas educated Hong Kongers to refer to a unique or distinct competitive edge that a person or company has over others, which is often something that they were born with or started with. The phrase also tends to be more positive and optimistic than the Cantonese equivalent terms, even though some may think the opposite is true.

用法: E.g. 林作:個世界就係唔公平。你要做既,就係要用任何你身上有可能既unfair advantage。如果你唔識用你靚仔呢樣野,令人覺得你靚仔D,至少比你做intern,咁你就係傻仔。(Jo Lam: The world is unfair as we know it. What you need to do is to make use of any sort of unfair advantage that you intrinsically have. If you don't know how to make use of your advantage in having good looks or make others think you are better looking so that they would at least give you a job as an intern, then you are an idiot.)

同義詞: 不公平的優勢; 不平等的優勢

vely good

定義: Often pronounced as 'vely gud', this is a code-mixing expression that grassroots Hong Kongers like to use when they cannot think of any other way to complement or give praise to something.  'Vely' (very) can also be used with other words such as 'delicious', even though delicious already denotes the meaning of excellence in food quality.

用法: E.g. 哇,今次做得好。Vely gud! E.g. 哇,D牛扒真係vely delicious呀!

Victoria girl

定義: Derived from Victoria Harbour and upgraded from 'Kong girl', this is a code-mixing term used by westernised Hong Kongers to describe a Hong Kong girl who is arrogant, sharp-tongued and overly self-important, like having "blue-blood" princess-like attitude. When compared with the 'Kong girl', the only real difference seems to be that the girl is proud of being called a 'Victoria girl' rather than a 'Kong girl' because the former sounds more elegant and posh while the latter sounds more of a deragatory term.

用法: E.g. I can't believe I went from being an egg tart girl in housing estates to Rosewood hotel-level. I am now a Victoria girl and I'm proud of it.

同義詞: 維多利亞妹, 維妹

E.g. 網民H:人工低咪Work-life balance,但户口唔balance (Netizen H: If you have low salary, it means you have work-life balance, but your bank account will not have a balance.)
